Living in Vermont
I went fishing in the Middlebury River gorge Sunday with Paul. I've driven up Rt. 125 many, many times, but never really appreciated the Middlebury River up through the mountains. This is a fantastic spot, unspoiled by development and hikers.
The first 1/2 mile or so are pretty well-trod, but after that the walls of the gorge pretty much meet the river, and you're only option is to bolder-hop up the river. This may sound pleasant, and lots of folks would do it if it all looked like this picture (the lower section). But up above, you need to think truck-size boulders between sheer, 50 ft. rock walls and you'll get the idea.
We fished for 3 solid hours, and I was really completely unaware of the time passing. It was a marvelous experience.
